Biography:
 
I am Associate Professor of Humanities in the Honors College at Texas Tech University and Honorary Research Associate Professor of Philosophy at the University of Queensland, Australia. I have also held faculty appointments at Cornell University, University of Notre Dame, University of Wisconsin-Madison, Miami University and Arizona State University, as well as at several universities in Europe and Asia.
 
I work on topics in the history of Western philosophy, Continental philosophy, philosophy of religion, philosophy of literature and of film. I am the author or editor (co-editor) of eight books, most recently Dying for Ideas. The dangerous Lives of the Philosophers (Bloomsbury, 2015). My work has been translated into a number of languages, including Chinese, Vietnamese and Arabic.
 
I've writen essays, book reviews and op-eds for such publications as the New York Times, The New Statesman, Dissent, Times Literary Supplement, Times Higher Education, Boston Review, The Daily Beast, International Herald Tribune, Christian Science Monitor, CNN.com (CNN Opinion), and The Globe & Mail, among other places.
