The Three Minute Thesis (3MT) is a research communication competition developed by The University of Queensland.

The exercise develops academic presentation and research communication skills and supports the development of research students' capacity to effectively explain their research in language appropriate to an intelligent but non-specialist audience.

Research higher degree (PhD and MPhil) students have three minutes to present a compelling oration on their thesis topic and its significance. 3MT is not an an exercise in trivialising research but rather an exercise with a focus to consolidate ideas and crystalise research discoveries.

We hold a School competition each year and the successful contestant will go through to compete in the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences round and onto the University of Queensland competition.

The 2015 winners were David Kinkead (overall winner) and Tzu-Hsien (Chris) Yuan (people's choice).
